DHARMA:
In literary records the usage of the word dharma can be traced back to the Vedic times. The more prevalent form of the word, however, was dharman. Both these words are derived from a verbal root dh¥, which means to bear, support, sustain.

Listen to a great radio interview with Thich Nhat Hanh on Speaking of Faith. It's called Brother Thay A Radio Pilgrimage with Thich Nhat Hanh

"We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves."
from
The Dhammapada

"Hatred does not cease in this world by hating, but by not hating; this is an eternal truth."
from The Dhammapada

NAMASTE
The meaning of 'Namaste': 'I honor  that place in you where the whole Universe resides. And when I am in that place in me and you are in that place in you, there is only one of us.'

METTA
Often when you receive a note, or read a discourse you will see the salutation "With Metta". Here is a description of that term. The Pali word Mettá (loving Kindness) has two root meanings:
"Gentle" - like a gentle rain that falls upon the earth; it does not choose where it falls, it simply falls without discrimination.
"Friend" - someone who is constant in our times of happiness and also in our times of unhappiness.

The Refuge Vow is the first vow of a Buddhist and is the gateway into formal Buddhism. One takes refuge in the Buddha as the example of awakening, in the dharma as the path of teachings and the sangha as Buddhist friends. Refuge is the entry into the mandala of the Buddha. The vow acts as a protector from suffering as it reminds you of the three jewels, Buddha, Dharma and Sangha and your commitment to awakening.

Everyone with an interest in Buddhism is welcome to take the Refuge Vow or to attend the Refuge Vow Ceremony.

Contact Candia at 901-270-6389 or pemakarpomeditation @gmail.com if you wish to take the vow. We will answer any questions you have about the ceremony. Rinpoche needs to know before the ceremony on the 15th.

Khenpo Gawang Rinpoche's talks on Analytical Meditation can be reached through www.pemakarpo.org
